Opening Day Entries Come Out Tomorrow

Tomorrow marks three days until opening day at Monmouth Park for the 2015 season, and with that come the entries for Saturday's program. Last year, 121 horses entered 12 races, so let's hope that figure is exceeded this year.

Also, here's the latest opening day press release from Monmouth:

A few highlights:

  • There will now be TWO pick 5s on the program--one on the first five races, one on the last five. Smart move, as the pick 5 as always been a popular wager.
  • The Jersey Shore 6, a jackpot wager requiring the bettor to be the only one to pick all six winners to collect the whole pool, will now have a base wager of 20 cents.
  • The track's simulcast signal will now be in high definition. Another great move that should be the standard for tracks these days.
  • Frank Mirahmadi, of Oaklawn Park, will be the track's new announcer. He will take the place of Travis Stone, who left Monmouth after one season to become the voice of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. To hear a sample of Frank's work, check out him calling eventual Derby winner American Pharaoh win the Arkansas Derby this year.
  • The parking lot will finally be paved.
It "shore" looks to be a tremendous year at Monmouth in 2015, which will hopefully be the start of a renaissance for the Shore's Greatest Stretch.
